SETTING THE GOALS: MATT ROBERTS AND THE STUDENT’S PERSPECTIVE

Matt Roberts considers the students’ point of view when he designs his lesson goals. He begins this by asking student centered questions (e.g., What is it that I’m going to be capable of doing that I wasn’t able to do prior to that? What skills will I have? What knowledge base will I have?). He then melds those with the teacher perspective of standards to create goals that encompass both. He clarifies that his goals allow the students to experience flexibility in their delivery of information or products.
