SELF-REGULATION SKILLS IN MIDDLE SCHOOL: TAMARA LECLERC AND PROMOTING RESOURCEFULNESS

Tamara LeClerc promotes resourcefulness through the design of the teaching environment. She lays out her classroom procedures during the first few days of school and these procedures remain consistent throughout the year. These classroom structures give time back to her for instruction and build on student ownership. As her middle-school students become more independent within the classroom environment, she has more time to provide just-in-time support to those students in need. From posting the day’s agenda to maintaining a make-up work center, she maintains the expectation that all of her students mature into thoughtful learners who are able to access the tools and information they need.
