Placing your order

We offer four convenient ways to place your order:

Payment options

Brookes accepts four means of payment:


1. Credit Cards

2. Purchase Orders (POs)

  • For security reasons, we are unable to accept purchase order by phone or web. Please fax or mail your PO.

  • You can attach the PO to a mailed or faxed order form; however an order form is not required.

  • We reserve the right to add a 2% order processing fee when fulfilling any purchase order that requires additional processing. Additional processing includes but is not limited to: fulfilling purchase orders generated through a centralized state agency e-procurement system and other similar state agency ordering programs. The 2% fee is calculated based on the order subtotal after any applicable discounts and before taxes and shipping charges. Where applicable this fee will be reflected in your shipping and processing charges.

  • First-time customers using POs may be subject to a credit review. You may be contacted prior to the processing of your order.


3. Checks and Money Orders

  • Brookes accepts payment by check or money order for mail orders only.

  • Make checks and money orders payable to Brookes Publishing Co.

  • Payment must always be in U.S. dollars, and all checks must be drawn on a U.S. bank.

  • Please add appropriate shipping and handling charges. See our complete list of shipping options and rates for more information and shipping options.

4. Wire Transfer

For international customers only. Payment by wire transfer must include all transaction and exchange fees, including those charged by the customer’s own financial institution and any intermediary financial institution employed by the customer’s original bank to complete the transfer. The funds deposited into our account must pay the invoice in full.

Taxes

Tax Exemption

If you are located in Indiana, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Texas, Washington, or Wisconsin and have a tax exemption number, please supply it when you place your order. (We include a field on our online order form for this purpose). You will also need to provide us with a copy of your exemption certificate, which we will retain for our records. We will be unable to process your order until we receive a copy of your tax exemption certification, so please fax it to 1-410-337-8539 immediately after placing your order. Please be sure to reference your web order confirmation number.


Indiana

As required by Indiana State law, all orders shipped to the state of Indiana will be charged a 7% sales tax on the total order cost (including shipping and handling).

Maryland

As required by Maryland State law, all orders shipped to the state of Maryland will be charged a 6% sales tax on the total order cost (including shipping and handling).

Pennsylvania

As required by Pennsylvania State law, all orders shipped to the state of Pennsylvania will be charged the state rate of 6% plus the local rate on the total order cost (including shipping and handling). The local rate varies based on location code and only applies to Allegheny and Philadelphia counties. Please reference the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue website to determine your local rate and combined sales tax rate.

Texas

As required by Texas State law, all orders shipped to the state of Texas will be charged the state rate of 6.25% plus the local rate on the total order cost (including shipping and handling). The local rate varies based on address and will not exceed 8.25%. Please reference the Texas State Government website to determine your local rate and combined sales tax rate.

Washington

As required by Washington State law, all orders shipped to the state of Washington will be charged the state rate of 6.5% plus the local rate on the total order cost (including shipping and handling). The local rate varies based on location code. Please reference the Washington State Department of Revenue sales and use tax rates chart to determine your local rate and combined sales tax rate.

Wisconsin

As required by Wisconsin State law, all orders shipped to the state of Wisconsin will be charged the state rate of 5.00% plus the local rate on the total order cost (including shipping and handling). The local rate varies based on address and will not exceed 5.6%. Please reference the Wisconsin State Government website to determine your local rate and combined sales tax rate.

Canada

As required by Canada, all orders shipped to Canada will be charged the Goods and Services Tax (GST) rate of 5% on the total order cost (including shipping and handling).

Discounts

Bulk discounts

Brookes offers bulk discounts on our products. A small number of our titles may be discount restricted and will not be covered under this advertised discount schedule. If applicable, your bulk discount will be automatically applied at checkout. If a single order is broken into multiple shipments, each individual shipment will receive the bulk discount that is applicable, not a bulk discount based on the quantity of the entire order.

Shipping

Continental U.S.

Standard shipping

Standard shipping typically takes 8-10 business days. This includes warehouse handling time and transit time. Orders are shipped by the most reliable method for your location and order. Rush shipping is available in most instances. Tax is applied to Maryland, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Texas, and Washington state orders as well as Canadian orders. For more information, see our tax page.

Standard shipping and handling charges are calculated as follows:

If your product total before tax is:
$0.00 – $50.00 add $6.50
$50.01 and over add 13% of the product total


Rush shipping

All rush orders receive priority processing and are shipped via UPS. Orders placed by 10:30 a.m. Eastern during the business week will be shipped the same day. Rush orders received after 10:30 a.m. will be processed and shipped the following business day. Shipping time depends on which rush method you choose. We do not offer weekend delivery.

Rush shipping and handling charges are calculated as follows:


Three Day

If your product total before tax is:
$0.00 – $50.00 $6.50 + $12.50 handling fee
$50.01 and over add 13% of the product total + $12.50 handling fee


Two Day

If your product total before tax is:
$0.00 – $50.00 add $6.50 + $20.00 handling fee
$50.01 and over add 13% of the product total + $20.00 handling fee


One Day

If your product total before tax is:
$0.00 – $50.00 add $6.50 + $30.00 handling fee
$50.01 and over add 13% of the product total + $30.00 handling fee

Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico

Standard shipping

Three Day shipping is not available to Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico.

Canada

Standard shipping

To save customers money on standard shipping, Brookes ships twice a month to Canada. Orders must be submitted by 6 PM ET on the 9th or the 24th of any given month to be included in our bi-monthly consolidated shipments. Tax is applied to all Canadian orders. For more information, see our tax page.

Transit time is estimated at 15-20 business days following the shipping consolidation date, however, please allow for delays in customs that may be outside of our control.

Standard shipping and handling charges are calculated as follows:

$70.01 and over add 15% of the product total

Rush shipping

All rush orders receive priority processing. Orders placed by 10:30 a.m. Eastern during the business week will be shipped the same day. Rush orders received after 10:30 a.m. will be processed and shipped the following business day. We do not offer weekend delivery.

We offer UPS International Expedited delivery to most Canadian provinces*. Shipping charges vary and will be automatically calculated by our cart based on the weight of your order. The estimated transit time for Expedited delivery is approximately 3-6 business days after your order is shipped; however, please allow for delays in customs that may be outside of our control. Customs clearance is performed by UPS and brokerage fees may be billed to recipients directly by UPS.

*Expedited service is not currently available to Nunavut, Northwest Territories, and Yukon. Please take advantage of our bi-monthly ground consolidation.

Other international

Orders are typically processed within 72 hours of receipt and shipped by way of an international freight forwarding service using the courier of their choice in order to offer the most reliable delivery for each global location.  Delivery times are estimated as 3-6 weeks, but are frequently impacted by local customs clearance and may vary.  Any customs, duty, or taxes are the responsibility of the receiver and will not appear on your order.  These fees cannot be estimated by Brookes Publishing and will be billed to the receiver directly by the courier or government agency upon import.

Standard shipping and handling charges to all other international locations are calculated as follows:

Returns

30-day money back gurantee

Because we want you to be completely satisfied with your purchase, we offer a 30-day money-back guarantee for our titles (unless otherwise indicated). At any time within the 30 days, you may return the product for a full refund or credit of the purchase price, less the shipping and handling costs.

Just follow these three easy steps to return a purchase

    1. Make sure the item is in resalable condition. We cannot refund or credit returned products that are marked or damaged.

    2. Enclose a copy of your invoice. Please include a copy of the original invoice (or the invoice number and invoice date) with the returned product so we can issue the proper credit or refund.

    3. Ship the package to our returns department

To guarantee delivery, please insure your package and ship it by UPS (or other traceable delivery service). We cannot issue refunds for packages that are lost in transit without proof of return attempt.

Defective products

Defective products may be returned for replacement or full credit. They must be reported and returned within 30 days of the invoice date. To report a defective item to our Customer Service Department, call 1-800-638-3775, fax 1-410-337-8539, or contact us through our online form.

Returns from Resellers

Booksellers must request permission to return in writing. Requests must include the following:

  • a copy of the original invoice and the return authorization
  • titles and quantities intended for return
  • reason for return

The permission granted is valid for thirty (30) days from the date of the original request. Returns received after this 30-day period will be charged a 10% penalty for late returns. Please submit return authorization requests to the attention of the Brookes Publishing Co. Returns Division via fax to: (443) 279-0016

Returns for credit must be requested within six (6) months of the original invoice date for full credit. Only partial credit will be given for books returned six (6) months or more after the original invoice date. No returns will be accepted after one (1) year.

All books returned for credit must be postpaid and delivered (after receiving permission) to our distribution center:

All returns must be received in unmarked, undamaged, re-salable condition. Any returns received damaged will be destroyed and a 50% penalty will be assessed.

Resellers do NOT have return privileges for DVDs.
